How to obtain permanent residency for your loved one

Are you a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and married to someone from another country? If you would like to immigrate a partner or family, we would be happy to assist you in obtaining permanent residency or citizenship for your loved ones.

As a citizen of the United States, you may help a relative become a lawful permanent resident of the United States by obtaining what is often referred to as a “Green Card.” To do so, you need to sponsor your relative and be able to prove that you have enough income or assets to support your relative(s) when they come to the United States.

A U.S. citizen, who is at least 21 years or older can file a petition for the following relatives:

  • Husband, wife, partner
  • Children, married or unmarried
  • Parents
  • Brothers or sisters

As a permanent resident of the United States, you may help a relative become a lawful permanent resident based on your status.

A permanent resident of the United States can file a petition for the following relatives:

  • Husband, wife, partner
  • Unmarried child(ren), regardless of age

Note: Only U.S. citizens may petition for married children.

What does the petition do for my relative?

Filing a relative petition and proving a qualifying relationship gives your relative a place in line for a visa number among others waiting to immigrate based on that same kind of relationship from the same country or region. When your relative’s visa becomes available, he or she may be eligible to immigrate.

In some cases, the applicant can remain in the U.S. while the application is being processed. In other cases, the applicant must appear at an overseas consulate.

Sometimes, the applicant must apply for a waiver showing “extreme hardship”, in case of separation. In addition, you must prove how the family will, financially, physically and emotionally be impacted. This can be difficult to obtain if you are not familiar with the government’s procedures and criteria.

No matter what the situation, we will advise you as to the process, cost, timing, and any risks associated with the process.
